There are three types of bets that you can make when betting on sports: the moneyline bet, the point spread bet, and the over/under bet.

The Moneyline Bet

The moneyline bet is a wager on which team will win the game. There is no point spread involved – the only thing that matters is who wins the game. This is the simplest and most common type of bet.

Let’s say the New York Yankees are playing the Boston Red Sox. The Yankees are listed as the favorite and they are paying -150 on the moneyline. This means that if you bet $150 on the Yankees, you would win $100 (plus your original bet back).

On the other hand, if you bet on the underdog Red Sox, they are paying +130. So if you bet $100 on them, you would win $130 (plus your original bet back).

The Point Spread Bet

The point spread bet is a wager on which team will win the game, but with a point spread added. This means that one team is given a head start (or disadvantage) in order to make the odds more even. For example, if the Patriots are playing the Jets, and the point spread is -14 for New England, this means that you would have to bet $14 to win $$100 on New England. If you were to bet on the Jets instead, you would need to risk only $100 to win $140. The point spread can be either positive or negative, depending on which team is favored.

The Over/under Bet

The over/under bet is a wager on whether or not the total number of points scored in a game will be over or under a certain number. This bet can be made on either the moneyline or the point spread.

Let’s say that the over/under for a game is 52. You could bet $110 on the over and if 53 or more points are scored in the game, you would win $100 (plus your original bet back). Alternatively, you could bet $110 on the under and if 51 or fewer points are scored, you would win $100. So as you can see, there is a lot of flexibility with this type of bet.

When betting on sports, it is important to do your research! Make sure to look at past games between the two teams, as well as the players’ stats. Also, check out the weather forecast and how that might affect the game.
